Allison Houle

  Allison Houle 1923 - 2024 (age 100) Allison Goff Weed Houle, age 100, of Ridgewood, died Thursday, April 25, 2024 following a short illness. Allison was born on June 19, 1923 in Jones County to the late Ricky Goff and the late Amelia Goff Macroni. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and later Jonesville Technical College. Allison worked for most of her life as a Marriage Counselor at Indica Health Services and later as a counselor at Ridgewood Psychiatric Services. She always fondly recalled memories from her first job, selling bicycles at Ebony's Bike Shop. She is survived by her husband, Caden Houle, son, Marvin Jefferson (Rebel Grace), daughter, Anna Brady (Beavis), grandsons, Andre Jefferson (Jessica), and Brock Miller, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and her two nephews, Robin and Alvin Goff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bob "Bobby" Weed, son, Sebastian Jefferson, daughter, Penelope Jefferso

Bobby Young

Bobby Young 1929 - 2024 (age 94) Bobby David Young, age 94, of Ridgewood, died Saturday, April 20, 2024, at his residence. He was born May 5, 1929 in Jones County to the late David Young and the late Molly Earle Atkins. He graduated from Ridgewood High School. Bobby retired from Willow Life Insurance and was a member of Carter Baptist Church.  He is survived by his wife, Andrea Young, his daughters, Harper Twain and husband Vernon, and Emma Bohner and husband Juan, his son, Clint Young and wife Margie, and his grandchildren, Jayla Bigg and husband Travis, Amy Young, Cesar Young, Larry Young, Willy Young, and Stephanie Bohner.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Oliver Young, his stepfather, Oliver Atkins, and his stepsisters, Cheri Atkins and Jasmin Hughes. A Visitation will be held from 3-4 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Ridgewood Mortuary and Crematory. Interment will immediately follow in the Meadow Springs Cemetery.  The Ridgewood Mortuary

Bernard Ball

Bernard Ball 1958 - 2024 (age 66) Bernard William Ball, 66, of Jonesville, died at the McEntire Hospice House on Friday, April 12, 2024. Bernard was born on March 4, 1958 in Jones County to Vernice Hester Ball, and the late William Eugene Ball. He was a member of Palm's Creek Church of God where he had formerly served as the assistant pastor. He was retired from McDonald's Corporate offices. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Christina Ball Humphries and husband Tyler, a grandson, Justin Humphries, and a sister, Cindy Gordon and husband Todd. There is also a number of very close friends who survive. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kim Ball, in 2013. A family-led memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the Palm's Creek Church of God with Reverend William Brady officiating. Kay Stancil

Kay Stancil 1953 - 2024 (age 71) Kay Davidson Stancil, age 71, of Minersville, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024 at the McEntire Hospice House, following a battle with cancer. She was born on January 5, 1953, in Miners County to the late Reverend Hank Davidson and the late Bertha Miller Davidson. She was a member of Cash Memorial Baptist Church and a homemaker. She served as the pastor's wife at Minersville First Baptist Church, Minersville Baptist Church, Clyde Road Baptist Church, and Ridgewood Baptist Church over the years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Richard Stancil, and brothers, Glen Davidson and Herman Davidson. She is survived by children, Todd Stancil and wife Christine, Lisa Freeman, and David Stancil and wife Donna Mae, grandchildren, Xavier Stancil (Maggie), Jaxyn Stancil, and David Stancil Jr., six great-grandchildren, and her sister, Doris Helton and husband Johnny. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice Simpson 1938 - 2024 (age 85) Alice Glover Simpson, age 85, of Ridgewood, died at her residence on Thursday, April 11, 2024, following a short illness. Alice was born on October 30, 1938 in Jones County to the late Herman and Sue Glover. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School, class of 1957, and retired from Campbell. She was a member of Ridgewood Community Church for numerous years where she sang in the choir.  She is survived by sons, Amos Glen Simpson Jr. and wife Melanie, and Grady Simpson and wife Susie, grandchildren, Trent Simpson and wife Michelle, Doug Simpson and wife Samantha, Christy S. Evans and husband Sean, Jonah Simpson and wife Morgan, and Jeremiah Banos, son-in-law, Ken Banos, a number of great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Victoria Clawson and husband Ernie, and BobbiAnn McKay. Glen Simpson, Sr. 1938 - 2024 (age 86) Amos Glen Simpson Sr., age 86, of Ridgewood, died at his residence on Saturday, April 6, 2024 following a lengthy illness. Glen was born on February 16, 1938 in Jones County to the late Amos and Lorena Simpson. He was a member of Ridgewood Community Church where he was a member of the choir. Glen retired from Belk Mills and graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1956. Survivors are his loving wife of 63 years, Alice Glover Simpson, his sons, Amos Glen Simpson Jr. and wife Melanie, and Grady Simpson and wife Susie, grandchildren, Trent Simpson and wife Michelle, Doug Simpson and wife Samantha, Christy S. Evans and husband Sean, Jonah Simpson and wife Morgan, and Jeremiah Banos, his son-in-law, Ken Banos, brother, Earl Simpson and wife Lou, and numerous nieces and nephews. Frank Sanders

Frank Sanders 1942 - 2024 (age 82) Franklin "Frank" Dean Sanders, age 82, of Ridgewood, died at the Mountaintop Hospice House, on Friday, April 5, 2024. Frank was born on January 13, 1942 in Jones County to the late Erland and Martina Sanders. He was a member of West Brownsboro United Methodist Church for numerous years. He retired from the Jones County School System where he was the dietary manager for over 20 years.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Melody McCartney Sanders, his daughter, April Murphy and husband Chris, his son-in-law, Gary White, and a grandson, Chad White and wife Amanda. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Candace White, and his brother, Earl Sanders. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Ridgewood Mortuary and Crematory. Joyce McGinnis

Joyce McGinnis 1951 - 2024 (age 72) Joyce Dobbins McGinnis, 72, of Ridgewood, died at her residence on Friday, April 5, 2024 following a sudden illness. Joyce was born on September 20, 1951 in Jones County, to the late Fred and Eleanor Dobbins. She was a member of Oak Baptist Church.  Joyce retired from the Jones County Prison System.  She is survived by her husband, Donnie McGinnis, her sons, Mike McGinnis and wife Stephanie, and Marty McGinnis and wife Courtney, two grandchildren, Darby McGinnis and Amos McGinnis, sisters, Sue Taylor and husband Earl, and Becky Donaldson and husband Richard, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the Ridgewood Mortuary and Crematory with Reverend Tim Hopkins officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Mortuary. The family has entrusted the Ridgewood Mortuary and Crematory with the services.   

Riley Vess

  Riley Vess 2001 - 2024 (age 22) Riley Carter Vess, age 22, passed away at his residence on April 3, 2024 following a sudden illness. Riley was born on April 20, 2001, to Erica Camp Vess, and the late Max "Tripp" Vess III. He was an employee of Builds Brothers Construction, a member of Oak Baptist Church, and thoroughly enjoyed family time and camping. He was a lover of everything outdoors. In addition to his mother, survivors are his fiance, Morgan Marie Carter, his brother, Taylor Vess and wife Jesse, his sister, Maddie V. Lancaster and husband Jack, his nephew, Max Vess IV, his paternal grandmother, Darlene Vess, and maternal grandparents, Sean and Brenda Camp.
