1929-2024 (age 94)

Oliver Hoyle Davenport, age 94, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024 at the Brookwillow Assisted Living Center surrounded by his loving family. Oliver was born on April 4, 1929 in Jones County to the late Hoyle Davenport and the late Blanche Lancaster Davenport. Oliver was a member of Oak Baptist Church as a child, and later a longtime member at both Hopewood Church and Cash Memorial Baptist Church. He served his country faithfully in the Army and later retired as the Town Manager for the Town of Ridgewood. Oliver also enjoyed helping his son Ricky at his auto shop. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Hudson Davenport, his second wife, Madge Freeman (Vess) Davenport, his son, Ricky Davenport, daughters-in-law, Kay Davenport and Patricia Davenport, a step-son, Max Vess Jr, and an infant daughter, Maxine Davenport. He was also preceded in death by brothers Hampton Davenport and Charles Davenport, and a sister, Silvia Bradshaw.

He is survived by his sons, Darius Davenport and wife Carol, Steve Davenport and wife Dorine, and Alan Davenport, his step-children, Carl Vess and wife Janet, and Ellen Carter and husband James, step-daughter-in-law, Darlene Vess, 12 grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The Family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2023 at the Ridgewood Mortuary and Crematory. The Service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2023 at 1 o'clock at the Oak Baptist Church with Reverend Zachary Prescott and Reverend Tim Hopkins officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Davenport Family Cemetery with Reverend Carter Crowe officiating. The Ridgewood Mortuary and Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brookwillow Assisted Living Center Activity Fund.
